BEGINNERS QUALIFICATION COURSE
KJG Dog grooming courses are part or full time courses, run from our beautiful salon in Chudleigh in Devon. The courses run for 45 days and cover more than just the basics. KJG courses are limited to three students at a time so you will have maximum tutor time. The courses are also very practical, covering theory, demonstrations and daily hands on grooming. Having taught in a training school for many years, I could see the need for more theory based work. I have successfully integrated this into KJG courses, without loosing any hands on grooming time. The final 10 days of your course will be salon based experience days, where you will be gaining valuable skills by shadowing an experienced groomer in day to day activities such as; customer interactions, the running and managing of a salon and helping with various grooming tasks. This will help to put into practice all that you have learnt throughout your course with us. We feel that this is an important transition between completing your course and starting your new career as a dog groomer.
Your course will take you through everything you need to know, from the basics of prep work and simple trims, all the way to running your own business and grooming to breed standard. I am very passionate about the welfare of the dogs, therefore I have a strong focus on correct handling which will benefit you no end when it comes to grooming on your own.
On successful completion of the 45 day course, you will gain an Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. This is a nationally recognised industry qualification, which is part of the National Qualification Framework and regulated by Ofqual.
45 days is considered the minimum amount of days to be a competent groomer, however I would recommend doing as many days as you can afford. Shorter courses can be arranged if you do not wish to gain the qualification, however it would be advisable to come back to do top up training.
The full course cost is £5,500 which includes your enrolment fee, an equipment pack worth over £320, canine first aid course worth £100, an informative course folder and all of your tuition fees.
Its important to choose the right school for you and to invest in your future career. Although we appreciate that learning a new skill can be costly, so we have put in place a payment plan to help you get started.
In order to secure your course dates we will require a deposit amount of £1,000. The remainder of your course balance can be split into 5 smaller payments of £950 that can be spread throughout your course. Instalments are usually due on the 1st, 9th, 18th, 27th and 36th day of your course. So for example, if you are doing one day a week at the academy, each payment will be due every 9 weeks.
